FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is stepping down as the head of the intelligence agency effective immediately, as a potentially damning memo is due to be released.
12:10 PM CST – Fox News is citing sources that McCabe may have been forced out, and was allowed to take his remaining vacation time before he retires.
Multiple media sources say that McCabe is stepping down, and many speculate that it is directly tied to possible actions he took against President Trump. While it is not clear if the much-discussed memo is the reason why, the timing leads many to believe that is the case.
The possible release of the memo could expose conflicts of interest – if not flat-out illegality – among some FBI officials.
It has been revealed that McCabe’s wife Jill, when she ran for a state-level office, received $700,000 from Terry McAuliffe, a former Democratic party official and close friend of the Clinton family. President Trump has called this out as a possible conflict of interest, as McCabe has been involved with the debunked portfolio about Trump and possible Russian interference in the presidential election.
Andrew G. McCabe has stepped down as the F.B.I.’s deputy director, a move that was widely expected as he has repeatedly come under fire from Republicans in Congress and from President Trump.
An American official said Mr. McCabe made his intentions known on Monday. He will immediately go on leave and plans to retire when he becomes eligible in mid-March.
