Donald Trump Jr. had some choice word for former First Lady Michelle Obama after news broke about film producer Harvey Weinstein’s numerous allegations of sexual harassment.
Earlier in the week, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted to Michelle Obama, “It’s like supporting someone ‘against your own voice’ but he’s a Hollywood liberal so it’s all good.”
Trump Jr.’s tweet referencing comments made by the former first lady last week when she said to women who voted against Hillary Clinton that they were voting “against your own voice.” She received much criticism from those on the right who believed she was condescending to those with whom she disagrees.
Harvey Weinstein recently stepped down from his position at Miramax due to allegations of sexual harassment that were exposed. The film producer paid money to at least eight women who accused him of sexually harassing them.
However, many believe that Weinstein’s behavior towards women goes far beyond these women. Other women have now come out to discuss their experiences with Weinstein.
At a 2013 film workshop for students, Michelle Obama heaped praise on Weinstein. During her speech, she thanked him for his contributions to the workshop. “I want to start by thanking Harvey Weinstein for organizing this amazing day,” she said.
“Harvey. This is possible because of Harvey. He is a wonderful human being, a good friend, and just a powerhouse. And the fact that he and his team took the time to make this happen for all of you should say something not about me or about this place, but about you. Everybody — we are here because of you,” she continued.
The producer has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Democratic Party for years. As a matter of fact, he has made numerous visits to the White House. This could be one of the reasons why he has not received much criticism for his alleged acts. As a matter of fact, the left’s silence on Weinstein has been deafening.
Lena Dunham — one of the few members of the Hollywood elite who are willing to criticize Weinstein, said in a tweet, “Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.” She continued, “This needs to end and it’s high time Hollywood shone a light on itself and made real changes in the behavior we accept from those in power.”
It’s good that Dunham — who is known as an extreme leftist — was brave enough to take Hollywood to task for their unwillingness to confront this issue. Unfortunately, most of those on the left — who gleefully trashed President Trump for his comments on an Access Hollywood tape — were remarkably silent after Weinstein’s acts were brought to light.
None of us should be surprised at the apparent hypocrisy of many on the left. They pretend to oppose misogyny because it devalues women, but it is obvious that they are motivated more by their political agenda than they supposed values.
Incidents such as these reveal the fact that many on the left who proclaim to hate sexism are only engaging in meaningless virtue signaling. When it’s time to address someone on their side for this type of behavior, they no longer have anything to say.
