Senate President Pro-Tempore Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) took on Democrat Sherrod Brown of Ohio. Brown accused Hatch of trying to hurt the middle class. He also used the helping the rich accusation as well. Mr. Hatch did more than bang his gavel, he spoke his mind. Senator Hatch comes from a lower middle-class background and was not feeling like taking any more standard talking points from a Democrat. Fireworks erupted in a Senate committee hearing on tax reform when a Democrat accused the Republican chairman of writing the bill “for the rich.”
Senate President Pro-Tempore Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) paused the hearing to criticize Democrat Sherrod Brown of Ohio for claiming he was intentionally trying to hurt the middle class.
“I really resent anybody saying that I’m just doing this for the rich. Give me a break,” Hatch boomed.
“You guys overplay that all the time and it’s getting old,” he said.
“Wait a minute, I’m not through,” Hatch said as Brown attempted to interrupt him to give a response.
“I come from the lower-middle-class originally so don’t spew that stuff on me,” Hatch said.
Hatch was born and raised in Pennsylvania, the son of a working-class metalworker, and later worked his way through the University of Pittsburgh.
Brown responded by saying he too is “sick and tired” of rich people “getting richer and richer” because of Republican policies.
