During her book tour in London, Hillary Clinton confessed that she wanted to skip President Trump’s inauguration.
Clinton appeared on “The Graham Norton Show” and told the public that she was expected to attend to “show support” for the “continuity of our government.”
But, said, “I really tried to get out of going.”
She explained how she and Bill Clinton, tried to find some excuse not to attend the inauguration.
“We thought ‘OK, maybe others aren’t going.’ We called the Bushes, and the elder Bushes were in the hospital, which I think was legitimate,” Clinton stated.
“And so then, we called the younger Bushes and they said ‘Yeah, we’re going.’ We called the Carters, and they said ‘Yeah, we’re going,’ so Bill and I looked at each other and we said, ‘We gotta go.’”
She then said Trump’s inauguration speech was “divisive” And “dark.”
“I wanted him to rise to the occasion of being our president and being the president for everybody, not just people who supported him. That didn’t happen,” Clinton said.
Even though Clinton criticized Trump’s speech, many other Americans praised it, like Katie Pavlich, a Fox News contributor, who said Trump’s speech reminded her of Abraham Lincoln.
“When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice,” Trump said during his speech.
He continued, “The Bible tells us, ‘how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity.’ We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity.”
