Carlos Bell was set to stand trial on 206 child sex abuse offenses beginning Monday (Charles County Sheriff’s Office)
A former Maryland middle school aide and track coach, who officials said is HIV positive, accused of sexually victimizing 42 juveniles has pleaded guilty, according to officials.
Fox News 5 reports that Charles County officials said 30-year-old Carlos Bell pleaded guilty to 27 counts of sexual abuse of a minor along with a slew of other serious crimes after being indicted on 206 charges. He will be sentenced to 190 years in prison, authorities stated.
Authorities began investigating Bell in December 2016 after a parent found inappropriate text messages on her child’s phone. At that time, Bell was removed from his position as track coach at La Plata High School.
In addition to the alleged assaults, police said child pornography was found on Bell’s home computer and electronic devices. After Bell was arrested in June, Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry said some of the “graphic images” showed Bell having sex with students.
Bell also faces federal charges, which he is expected to also plead guilty to, according to officials.
